Langho in Bloom Village Planter Trail
Monday 29th June 6pm

The “Langho in Bloom” initiative is a volunteer-led community project aimed at sprucing up the village of Langho in the Ribble Valley with vibrant seasonal planters, community orchards and public floral displays.
We had a very enjoyable and informative evening touring round the Langho in Bloom planters.
Three of their members, including their Gardening Lead, gave us a guided tour around their beautiful planters and orchard. The evening was concluded with tea, coffee, cake and biscuits and a tour round a member’s garden.

Visit to Monk Hall Farm
Friday 19th June
Thank you to Helen and Magnus for a marvellous visit to their small holding.
Situated in the on the edge of East Lancashire moorland next to Thursden Brook their livestock are chosen for their ability to integrate with the ecosystem and to help preserve rare and native British breeds.
After an initial tea, coffee and biscuits and introductory talk in their newly built outbuilding we were taken round their farm. We met their pigs, chickens, cows, goats and horse. At the end we had the opportunity to buy their eggs, wax candles and fleece rugs.
For more information please see their website and Facebook pages, where you can also add your name to the reservation list for their meat.

National Emergency Briefing
On Friday 18th May we held a very informative and successful evening in Read and Simonstone Village Hall when we screened the National Emergency Briefing film.
We watched the film and then discussed the implications of Climate Change and possible solutions at a local level. We also pledged to write to our local MP to encourage him to watch the film and to sign up to the petition to have the Government declare a national emergency.
We are hoping that as many people as possible, perhaps 200 in our area will write to our MP. The aim is to force the Government to broadcast the film nationally in order that people are properly informed about the Climate and Nature Crisis.
Thank you to all those who attended.
Thursday 25th September
Talk on The Benefits of Miyawake Forests by Ian Wright LCC Treescapes, Community Engagement Officer.
On Thursday 25th September 7.30pm at Read and Simonstone Village Hall.
We had a most interesting talk and found out how these miniature forests have benefitted the environment and communities across Lancashire. Might we be able to plant one locally?
Thursday 4th December
A great fun filled evening for all was enjoyed at our Christmas Social. As well as a buffet and drinks, including mulled wine, there were fun nature and seasonal themed quizzes, poetry readings and a very enjoyable ‘bag snatch bingo’ where much hilarity ensued and everyone came home with a prize!
