TAKING STEPS TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

Activities and Local Projects

We are passionate about things we can all do locally to help the environment. These include….

Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

This needs no introduction. Carbon emissions from petrol cars, manufacturing and power sources such as electricity and gas, all cause global warming. If global warming continues it will have a devastating impact here in the UK and around the world.

We want to help people save money on heating bills.

By taking our thermal imaging camera round to peoples homes we can identify areas where heat (and money) is being lost.

We also have a Home Energy Kit you can borrow, which gives you ideas on how to save money on heating bills.

See these other pages for quick fix ideas and major ways to save money..

Big Ideas

Quick Fix Ideas

.. these ideas also help people to reduce their carbon footprint.

We are keen to promote biodiversity in the villages. See our Pollinator Project, Balsam bashing and gardening projects. We also bought boxes for small mammals and birds to nest in.

Hedgehogs. We are trying to map the whereabouts of hedgehogs and create a hedgehog highway in the villages.

Litter Picking

Litter is a problem on our streets, riverbanks, and in our woods and recreation areas. Each month our members take part in a litter pick. We also have one-off events where we tackle litter ‘grot spots’ as a group.
Although it’s a never-ending task, picking up litter is a rewarding and therapeutic activity!

What Can We Do?

TOGETHER we can make a difference! We can all play our part, large or small, in trying to reduce our carbon footprint.

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

The more we buy and send to landfill, the greater our carbon footprint becomes. To help local people recycle things which might otherwise go into landfill.

REG have done a number of things to try and nudge people into recycling various things and also to reduce the amounts of single use plastic that are filling up our landfill sites. See Plastic Free Initiative.

We feel that the land available where we can ‘dump our rubbish’ in council landfill sites is quickly running out. So it’s important to stress that we need to think about the things or stuff we buy, their life cycle and where they will end up.

The recycling and reuse of Plastics is also an important and pressing issue.

See our Achievements page for a list of the things we have done and come and get involved.
